Rafael Lamas is an orchestra conductor, concert pianist, and college professor. He is a distinguished professor of musicology at the University of Granada, and spent many years as a full professor of Hispanic studies at Fordham University. He has performed across the US and the EU at venues such as the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall in New York and the Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada, leading the Granada Academic Orchestra and the Ensemble Ancora. He also conducts regularly the Orchestre des Rives Méditerranéennes in Marseille.

He has published the books “Música e Identidad” and “Escuchar e Intepretar” in Alianza Editorial. His last two books of literary creation, “Músicas de Nueva York” and “Un Instante en Roma” appeared in Traspiés editorial.

He has received scholarships as a resident musician and writer from institutions in the US (Alaska, Hawaii, and Colorado), France, Germany, Italy, and Spain (Royal Academy of Spain in Rome).

He lived in New York, London, Vienna, Paris, Siena, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Madrid, Granada, and Ferrol.
